“I prefer to sit on the pink tissue paper and play with the string. But I sniffed the adorable cards from him and Grandma. Daddy makes reference to Visual Kei and knows I say “mao mao” (not “meow!”). With my help, they have not one but TWO exciting projects in the works… wahhh you shall see!” – Basil Farrow

What more can I say? Hugs and kisses for Ronan and Mia! Thank you for this incredibly thoughtful birthday gift!

A quick round-up of recent press… Global creative networking site Nineteen74 featured me in their latest newsletter. Their site unites creative people from various disciplines (designers, stylists, models, illustrators) – highly recommended!

“La Carmina is one of the net’s most intriguing and successful style bloggers, dubbed “adorable, in a somewhat bizarre way” by The New Yorker. She not only chronicles Harajuku street style, but lives it to the fullest: her daily blog is a whirlwind of Gothic Lolita girls, all-night Tokyo cyber parties, and cute cooking videos co-starring her Scottish Fold cat. Design, illustration, photography, film… La Carmina’s creativity extends in all directions but is united by her J-pop Goth aesthetic. With two books coming out this year – about crazy Tokyo theme restaurants and original recipes for cute food – this wild ride shows no sign of slowing down.”

Crazy Wacky theme restaurants by La Carmina, cute kawaii monkey, Mark Batty Publisher is an independent publisher dedicated to making distinctive books on the visual art of communicating, showcasing the visual power and innovation of contemporary culture.

My new book, Crazy Wacky Theme Restaurants, is also featured on the front page of my publisher’s website. Mark Batty Publisher is doing an awesome job at getting the word out; you can check out the Press Release and a recent news round-up. Ladies and gentlemen… introducing the book cover of Cute Yummy Time! It’s hard to believe my “cute cooking” recipe book comes out worldwide from Perigee/Penguin USA this October. This project wouldn’t have been possible without all of you. ^__^

The back blurb reads: “Enter the magical world of Cute Yummy Time, where simple pancakes become adorable koalas, grilled cheese sandwiches become hippos, and lemon tarts look like puppies. The Japanese cult of kawaii (“ka-why-ee,” or all things cute) has spread to every aspect of living – including food. Japan’s newest trend: school lunches dolled up as adorable creatures. They’re feast for the eyes, but not all the ingredients may be familiar to Western palates. Cute Yummy Time thinks outside the bento box, sharing more than 70 recipes for making food “so cute, you could just eat it.” Using familiar and nutritious foods, author La Carmina shows you how to easily turn even the most mundane meal into a squeal-worthy sensation.”

Cute Yummy Time doesn’t just have healthy and adorable recipes, like piggy bread (remember my cooking demo?). It also contains a whimsical adventure story about La Carmina and her Scottish Fold cat, Basil Farrow! Like Alice in Wonderland, we tumble through the oven into Kawaii-Land, a bizarre Sanrio-esque world filled with cutie-faced characters…
