NHK KAWAII TV VIDEO CLIP: LA CARMINA, BEST TOKYO GOTH CUTE FASHION STORES & CLUBS! CLOSET CHILD ADDRESS, SAGAMI-ONO.
At long last, I’ve uploaded my appearance on NHK Kawaii TV!
Last fall, La Carmina and friends were featured on the popular program, which airs on Japan’s national network. Each show covers cute Tokyo style, trends and people.
Watch the clip above and on Videofy.
Funny story: I insisted that the NHK cameraman shoot me from high angles. Glad I did. Everyone else featured in this episode was shot un-flatteringly from below!
Thanks to all my spooky crew who took part, and made the shoot a success. Here are behind-the-scenes photos, including addresses and access:
– Abilletage (Gothic Lolita corsets and tea/sweets room)
– BabyDoll Harajuku (dark fetish Lady Gaga)
– Midnight Mess (Goth Industrial EBM dance club and live bands)
Speaking of shops: you know my favorite is Closet Child, purveyors of secondhand Gothic Lolita Punk and Visual Kei goods. Yukiro went to the new Sagami-ono location, and sends us this report:
A lot of people know there’s a Closet Child in Harajuku, Shinjuku, Ikebukuro and Yokohama. (See maps, photos and reports in La Carmina’s Tokyo shopping guide.) But most don’t realize there is an excellent once in Kanagawa prefecture, south of Tokyo (30 min on the Odakyu Line).
The Sagami-ono store is divided in two sections.
1) Gothic and Lolita brands like Alice and the Pirates, Algonquins and Moi-meme-moitie
2) Rock and punk labels like Vivianne Westwood and Hysteric Glamour.
They had a lot of brand clothes and jewelry on sale, so it was even cheaper than usual. If you bought three secondhand items, you got another 20% off. We just had to buy a bag each.
I found a pair of Gothic-looking pants from Algonquins and a Medieval top from Ozz On. These are two of my favorite brands since they have outstanding designs and textures.
We really enjoyed the visit and would love to go back soon. Closet Child Sagamiono is located very close to the north exit and not hard to find. Tip: the sign is white, not the usual brown color.

Please take a few minutes to watch my NHK Kawaii TV appearance. Did you enjoy the report on my work as a Goth fashion blogger and coolhunter? Do you agree with my approach towards underground cultures?

LA CARMINA ON FOOD NETWORK TV SHOW. ZAUO FISHING THEME RESTAURANT TOKYO, CHURCH-THEMED CHRISTON CAFE.
Thanks for everyone who watched me on Food Network TV — I appreciate your messages! I was the Tokyo Goth expert guide to Christon Cafe, on the new program “World’s Weirdest Restaurants.”
My purple Gothic dress is gifted by Gloomth. The jewelry was loaned by Strange Freak: a collection inspired by hide of X Japan. I also modeled the accessories in these photos (yes, I have hostess hair).
Naomi and I fixed (organized the local production) of all the Tokyo TV episodes. We cast our spooky friends in this Goth restaurant scene. (For more about our film/TV fixing services, visit our Pirates website.)
I spoke about Japanese dark fashion and culture, and how it fits in with the theme of Christon Cafe.
We ate vampiric bloody rolls, and Tower of Babel salad. Even the menu looks like a Bible!
The relics in the room came from actual Eastern European churches. Sacrilege, or silly? Visit Christon Cafe and decide for yourself.
Address: Oriental Wave Building 8F, 5-17-13 Shinjuku, Tokyo.
Don’t forget to visit Decadance Bar upstairs on the ninth floor. See photos of the wild cyber bar in my Nightlife Guide. (Photos above by Naomi)
Last week’s episode also featured Zauo, a wacky restaurant where you fish for your own fish!
Customers receive a rod and bait. Mistress Maya and HILO reeled in a big one.
You get to catch what you eat. Talk about fresh food…
This shark is a “pet” — don’t try to eat him.
What do you think of this fishing-themed restaurant? Cruel, or kooky?
Zauo is located at Washington Hotel 1st Floor, 3-2-9 Nishi Shinjuku, Tokyo
