Dear Basil Farrow (my baby son),

I miss you. It’s hard not to; you are big in Japan! Everywhere I go, I see foldy ears: there are Scottish Fold calendars, stickers… I even found a photo book starring a cream-colored kitten like you. (But this imposter isn’t nearly as – how shall we put it – confectious as you are.)

Mommy wishes she were with you, but she needs to work to pay for your byproduct-free organic cat food. She’s been photographing cat cafes for her upcoming book on theme restaurants. Oh, don’t be jealous – these Nihon-nekos don’t look like squishy teddy bears. They tense up when you approach; you certainly can’t put a Goth Loli bonnet or top hat on their heads!
