I’M GUEST OF HONOR AT ANIMEGACON, LAS VEGAS CONVENTION! MAUI, HAWAII PRESS TRIP & PRSA TRAVEL TOURISM SPEAKER.
On the road again! After a bit of teasing, I’m going to announce 3 of the 6 cities I’ll be visiting in the next months. Perhaps you can join me on my adventures? Keep reading to see where I’m headed.
(Above is a bonus shot from my newly pink hair photoshoot.)
1) Las Vegas. I’m the Guest of Honor at AniMegaCon on August 17, 2012 (LVH hotel). This new Japan/anime convention promises to be a giant — with a maid cafe, fashion show hosted by yours truly, and a whopping $10,001 prize for the Masquerade Best in Show winner.
For info about the location, tickets and guests, visit the AniMegaCon site and Facebook. Hope to see you in Sin City (Aug 17-19)!
2) Maui, Hawaii. Aloha, palm trees and beaches! In late June, I’m embarking on a social media press trip sponsored by the Maui Visitors Bureau. My Mexico film crew is joining me, so we’ll be making professional travel videos for you.
I’ll share every step of the journey on my social networks, so be sure to add me on Twitter and Facebook. I went to Honolulu as a teenager, but this is my first time in Maui. If you have trip suggestions for me, please let me know in the comments. (Creative Commons pic above by Rosa Say)
3) Columbus, Ohio. I’m honored to be speaking at the PRSA Travel & Tourism Conference on June 5th. My panel is called “Lights, Camera, Video: Travel News Online and Mobile — the Latest Ideas.”
It’s wonderful to be recognized by the travel media industry: I’m happy that my videos and blogs are getting a positive reception. I’m grateful for supporters who “get” my personalized, web-based reporting — and I’m excited to share my experiences with other travel professionals. (Pic above from PRSA)
On that note, Johnny Jet interviewed me about my Travel Style. I profess my love of the Hello Kitty airport, Goth cruises, and Tokyo’s Odaiba (home to Rainbow Bridge, a pirate-themed restaurant and a cat petting zoo).
Can’t wait to embark on these globe-treks. Thank you, readers, for your support; it makes my work possible.
If you use smartphone apps, let’s be friends on Instagram (lacarmina) and Pose (lacarmina). These also post to my Tumblr (where I’ve moved my Song of the Day feature).
Guess what? I’ll be visiting 3 more international cities in the next months! I’ll spill the beans next week, and tell you how you can be involved. If only I could bring my cat with me…
Have you been to Vegas, Ohio, Maui? Got recommendations? Share them in the comments.
❤ (=^ェ^=) Spread the love…

DOWNTOWN LAS VEGAS BARS: INDIE, ALTERNATIVE GOTH CLUBS & NIGHTLIFE IN VEGAS. AMAZING RACE GOTH TEAM AT MAGIC MARKETPLACE CLOTHING EXPO.
Las Vegas is not exactly paradise for us alternative/spooky types. The nightclubs at the major hotels charge $30 entry — and for what? To see the girls you went to high school with in stilettos and mini-dresses, grinding with men best described as “homies”? Shudder, shudder.
Salvation is away from the Vegas Strip, in the old downtown illuminated by restored retro neon lights. Two years ago, I had a riotous time at Beauty Bar: 80s dance tracks and manicures, with a hilarious floor show by drag queen Toni. Next door is The Griffin, a dark and gargoyle-y bar with strong drinks and no cover. The Downtown Cocktail Room has a good selection of our beloved absinthe (we had Pernod and Mansinthe). To top it off, we won $15.50 from a slot machine — and screamed so loudly!
The previous night, we met Kynt at Double Down, a dive bar legendary for serving Ass Juice and the Bacon Martini. It was packed with types that one can only describe as weird, even by our standards. The psychotic murals and “videos so insane they once made Timothy Leary turn blue” added to the lurid atmosphere.
Everything’s out of order… but on Day 2 of MAGIC clothing expo, we met Kynt and Vyxsin at the Lip Service booth and snuck them into the press room for free food.
At the Akumu Ink booth, I showed off Basil Farrow’s blog and everyone went awww for my earless wahh wahh cat!
LA creative types tend to end up at Magic. I ran into Dienzo, the talented Gothic artist who did the vampire painting of La Carmina. What do you think the pink decorations in my hair are made from? (Answer: paper clips from Berlin. Random!)
Our pal Rony Alwin of Rony’s Photobooth had a photo exhibit at MAGIC. Do you recognize any of the creatures he’s photographed? Amanda Lepore and Jeffree Star are among them…
Let’s wrap up our Vegas days with photos of alt/Gothic clothes displayed at Magic. Yukiro and I went wild for Mariannas, lush and Gothic jewelry that you can customize.
What do you love and hate about Las Vegas? Do you have any favorite hangouts? Have you been to the downtown spots I mentioned?
