Animegacon Las Vegas anime convention: DollDelight designer Cyril Lumboy, Jrock Gothic Lolita fashion show, J-pop clothing.
I had a wonderful time at Animegacon, as Guest of Honor. It’s inspiring to see how international designers, like Doll Delight (above), are taking inspiration from Japanese street styles and giving it a fresh, colorful face.
With Scarlett Ginger designer, Vanessa Irino, and Amazing Race’s Kent Kaliber. (Some of these photos are courtesy SpyOnVegas and model Christy).)
The “La Carmina fashion show” was actually a showcase of five non-Japanese designers, influenced by Jrock and Gothic Lolita style.
I introduced each collection and described the outfits worn by the models.
Beautiful works by Rina Cali, Scarlett Ginger, DollDelight, Retroscope Fashions, and Hello Drama. Animegacon posted video clips of the runway show.
The best part: meeting all of you in person! Everyone was a sweetheart.
Open, positive energy all around.

Cyril Lumboy, the Doll Delight designer, made this headdress for me.
We finally met after several years of chatting (I even featured Cyril on my site two years ago).
I also hosted a panel and signed autographs. Thank you so much for the birthday gifts!
Kent and I stopped by the h.NAOTO booth in the exhibitor’s hall.
A happy run-in with the Visual You girls.

Goths take over Las Vegas! Animegacon with Amazing Race Kent Kaliber. LVH casino, Luxor hotel, Venetian, Tao restaurant.
Viva Las Vegas! Animegacon flew me to Sin City to be Guest of Honor at their inaugural anime convention. In a stroke of good fortune, the event coincided with my birthday.
Look who raced me to Vegas: Kent Kaliber, Amazing Race Goth. Remember the packing tips video we made for Huffington Post, with pink-haired Miss Vyxsin?
We were stationed in LVH, where the convention took place. I’m wearing a Banana Fish kitty top from Closet Child, and a skirt gifted by Lip Service.
My role was to host the Jrock-Lolita fashion show the next day. We gathered for rehearsal with director Carlos. After, Kent and I painted Vegas… black.

Everything in Sin City is over-sized and nonsensical.
On a single strip, you can visit (fake) New York, Paris, Monte Carlo, Rome, Venice and Egypt.
Luxor is one of our favorite hotels, and the most suited to our aesthetic (mysteries of ancient Egypt). When you look up at the pyramid ceiling, your head spins.
We rode the elevator, or sideways-lurching “inclinator”, several times. The other passenger was not amused by our giggling.
Walk like an Egyptian. Next stop… Italia.
Contrast the painted sky, canals and gondoliers to my real-life visit to Venice with Seby.
Koi fish beneath the big Buddha at Tao Restaurant, where I had a birthday dinner. I ordered everything on the menu with yuzu (my favorite Japanese citrus) on it.
Throne chairs in the corridor.
Next, I’ll post photos from Animegacon, including the Doll Delight fashion show! For sneak peeks (and cute kitty antics), check out my iPhone videos on VideofyMe.
Have you partied in Las Vegas? Which hotels, restaurants and diversions did you enjoy the most?
