CUTEST SCOTTISH FOLD CAT'S BIRTHDAY! FOLD-EARED KITTY BASIL FARROW CHEWS A SWEET LOLITA CAKE HAT, PLAYS WITH TOYS IN VIDEO.
Today, I turn over the blog to my Scottish Fold cat, Basil Farrow. “Wahhh! It’s my birthday today! Is this package for me?”
“It’s beautifully wrapped and the sender is… Agent Lover? Let’s give it a good Scottish Fold sniff.”
“It’s hard to guess what’s inside when one has no ears and no nose…”
“Wahhh it’s a little Gothic cake for the birthday boy! Let’s give it a taste…”
“Not very sweet. And why… won’t… the… strawberry… come OFF? Oops, I lifted up the whole cake!”
Poor Basil… the cake is actually a sweet little hat, sent to us from the funny and talented blogger Agent Lover! Handcrafted and available in a variety of colors, these treats pair perfectly with Gothic Lolita dresses. Now, don’t you want a cake hat? You can see more photos and ordering info in Agent Lover’s bakery.
Huge hugs to everyone who wished my cat, Basil Farrow, happy birthday on his Facebook! You’re all crazy and I love it. To celebrate Basil’s big day, I’ve posted a new Scottish Fold video above and here. Come see my eternal kitten playing and lying upside-down in the sun.
There’s more earless kitty-ness on Basil Farrow’s YouTube channel (please subscribe?), Facebook (please add?) and blog.
Do you celebrate your pet’s birthday? Should I do anything special for Basil today? Come see the Andrew Zimmern Tokyo episode preview here if you haven’t already.

LOS ANGELES MAID CAFE, ROYAL/T ART GALLERY SPACE, JAPANESE DESIGN DOLL SHOP, COSPLAY LA THEME RESTAURANT.
No need to fly all the way to Japan to visit a maid cafe (where the waitresses wear French maid costumes). You can get your “moe” fix at Royal/T, a Japanese art gallery and maid cafe in Los Angeles. Fun fact: if you scramble “moe,” you get “emo”!
The art space contains a boutique for kawaii toys, Japanese dolls, design books and other wonderful things. Bring your camera: the open, well-lit space and giant art props are perfect for an impromptu shoot.
Manga and maneki nekos (beckoning cat sculptures) on the shelves — Royal/T is a little taste of Akihabara, right in America. You can see more photos of the maid cafe from my previous visit, as well as the Gothic Lolita Phaidon book release party.
What are you up to this weekend? I just saw Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, the new Swedish film with a Goth girl hacker. A fiery performance and brutal murder mystery; it’s one of the best movies I’ve seen in theaters recently. Have you seen it or read the book?
