IKEBUKURO CAT CAFE, NEKOROBI NEKO CATS IN TOKYO, JAPAN. BENTO BOX LUNCH, CUTE FACE CHARACTER BENTOS RECIPES & TECHNIQUES.
Los Angeles is crazy fun! We have a newspaper feature brewing… can’t wait to show you. Add me on Twitter for the latest updates.
Filming for TV shows is fun, but the all-day-and-all-night schedule can be taxing. Especially on travel shows, which try to cram as many locations as possible into a single day. The Canal Plus French crew took a much-needed break for a bento lunch. Famous host Antoine de Caunes holds up his box.
Every time I open up a bento box, a sense of calm washes over me. Everything is so beautifully compartmentalized: the salmon, veggies, rice. Ahh.
Once we were fed, we piled back into the TV crew van. Onwards, to a cat cafe in Ikebukuro.
Every Tokyo neko cafe has a resident Scottish Fold, but this one isn’t nearly as round or earless as my Basil Farrow…
Antoine did a hilarious ad lib gag with the black cat. He pretended to sneeze and wipe his snotty hand on the kitty’s fur!
My Lolita cake hat, gifted from Agent Lover, is not edible. But I brought Antoine some cute food…
After he was through with them, the kawaii faces were destroyed!
Cat cafes are pretty amazing. Felines roam around the establishment, and visitors can pet and play with them, while sipping on cafe lattes.
Antoine also did an impromptu speech with the cats that had us cracking up.
I’ll post video clips from Toque de Tokyo, the Canal Plus French documentary, soon. Til then, you can see behind-the-scenes coverage here on my blog.
Intrigued by Japanese cat cafes? There are more stories and color photos in my Crazy, Wacky Theme Restaurants: Tokyo book.

H.NAOTO FASHION SHOW, INTERVIEW: HANGRY & ANGRY DESIGNER GASHICON. HARAJUKU LATEST PUNK STREET STYLES, CUTE JAPANESE GIRL MODELS.
A few days before Halloween, h.NAOTO invited Naomi and me to the Hangry and Angry fashion show at the Heaven store in Harajuku. We wanted to share the exuberant presentation with you, so we took a million photos and videos. Keep reading… we hope you enjoy the kitty eye candy.
We interviewed Gashicon, designer of Hangry and Angry (the Japanese Goth Punk brand associated with h.NAOTO). She has a background as an illustrator, and while she works with Naoto-san, she creates all the art and clothing designs herself. What inspires her work? Why cats, and does she own any? Gashicon’s thoughts on Hello Kitty? Watch our video to find out…
You can see the interview, Hangry and Angry runway show, and h.NAOTO collection preview above and on YouTube.
Just like at the h.NAOTO Goth night, the guests dressed up in the spirit of the genki Gothic Punk brand. The giant Hangry and Angry mascots had difficulty walking down the wet staircase in the giant shoes… they lost their footing several times, and almost tumbled down!
Quite a few children came to the fashion presentation. The little girl in the pink Lolita dress stole the spotlight.
I wonder how much her cell phone weighs, with that giant kitty-clump of charms attached.
As you can see in our video, the Hangry and Angry runway presentation was a fun affair. No serious model-faces here. Instead, cute Japanese girls pranced around and posed to the B-52s!
h.NAOTO loves the synergy of fashion and music. The two male members of the Hangry and Angry band chased each other around the room.
Many of the models clutched cat dolls. I love the new monster-explosion line, and the striped-and-patched knee socks.
Which of the outfits do you like best?
Gashicon and her cat mascots ran out at the end of the show, and threw candy at the audience.
She thanked everyone for their support and bantered with the band.
Two of the models are from America, and were honored to be part of the show.
In our video, Naomi and I also give you a tour of the latest collections from Sixh and h.NAOTO.
It was a joy to meet Gashicon, and refreshing to watch a fashion show with playful spirit. What do you think of the latest Hangry & Angry clothing collection? You can see the models in action in our new video.
More h.NAOTO coverage and collaborations coming up… I’m glad you liked the photos of Sebastiano Serafini in Sixh.
