PIRATE PIN-UP GIRL PHOTOSHOOT. PROFESSIONAL GOTHIC MAKEUP TUTORIAL, HEART-SHAPED GLITTER EYESHADOW.
As you likely know, I’m Captain of a TV hosting/fixing and coolhunting business called La Carmina & The Pirates. So I was doubly excited to shoot a Pirate Pin-Up Girl look for the pages of Alt Noir, a Gothic fashion and culture magazine that put me on their latest cover.
It was a marathon photoshoot, lasting from morning to night. None of this would be possible without the tireless work of my creative partners:

I’m glad you liked the step-by-step Goth makeup tutorial in the latex space-queen post. Here’s how Jenn turned me into a lady-pirate.
She swept a black “banana line” over my crease for the retro look, and painted on a thick cat-eye with liquid eyeliner. Then she added false eyelashes, and highlighted with white eyeshadow.
Next: a black heart over one eye, outlined with strips of sparkle gems from a craft store. And red, pouty lips.
I loved my sailor dress with a pencil skirt and red corset, accessorized with a silver bird necklace and bracelet.
Topping off the look… a mini pirate hat, in my big pin-up curls!

JAPANESE DIRTY UNDERWEAR VENDING MACHINES, OTAKU SHOPPING AT NAKANO BROADWAY. ANIME MANGA STORES TOKYO.
Domo arigato, Mr. Robato! Most people think of Akihabara as Tokyo’s otaku (nerd) district, populated by maid cafes, anime, manga, video games and electronics. But Nakano Broadway, an indoor shopping complex, is possibly more specialized. With bits of naughtiness thrown into the mix.

Nakano is a five-minute subway ride from Shinjuku Station on the Chuo Express. You know you’re on the right track when you see obsessive fans gathered for an idol’s appearance.
The large Don Quixote store sold pink salamanders as pets. The fuzzy green ball is also an aquatic creature. Ah, symbiosis.
Note that they used a Scottish Fold cat to model this pet cooling mat. I’m itching to see the Dracula musical…
Broadway arcade is lined with small, indie stores that vend vinyl figurines and comic/cartoon memorabilia. My eyes drifted to Sebastian from Black Butler, and the Hide guitar goodies.
Vintage collectibles, such as these robotos.
Do vending machines that sell used panties truly exist in Japan? Indeed, for the low price of 500 yen.
You can also pick up a Tenga “device” and “special” DVD for self-pleasure.
You’ll come across some sketchy material in Nakano.
At the same time, there are cute characters all over.
