KARAOKE WITH DUTCH PEPSI TV: JAPANESE MISTRESS SINGS ALANIS MORISSETTE. LAST CHANCE TO WIN GOTH LOLITA VICTORIAN CLOTHES.
My to-do list is overflowing: I still have a thousand behind-the-scenes photos from my recent Japanese TV shoots to share with you! Remember when my friends and I took the Dutch Pepsi crew to Tokyo’s oddest pop culture spots? We gathered outside Pasela Hon Ten in Shinjuku before singing our spleens out at karaoke.
My white bread birthday cake was quite the spectacle. However, Mistress Maya stole the show — and scared us to pieces — with her heart-stopping rendition of Alanis Morissette’s You Oughta Know. You can watch the entire clip of her performance in this new video.
Don’t you love how everyone looks shell-shocked, while I’m rolling with the cat-scratches? You can see the other Dutch Pepsi video (where we visit Alice in Wonderland cafe, Harajuku and a Sega game center) here.
Thanks to everyone who tuned in to see my Scottish Fold cat on Discovery Channel! I will put up his Cats 101 appearance ASAP; please subscribe to my channel so you won’t miss it.
Head bonks to Weasalgal, who wrote a charming love letter to my “cute, roly-poly, ginger/beige teddy bear” Basil Farrow. You can read it here and after the jump.
PS: This be your FINAL chance to win $400 of Gothic Lolita Steampunk clothing from Gloomth! Wouldn’t ye like to get ye hooks on me pirate jacket? Enter our wardrobe giveaway contest here (it’s easy) before the clock strikes midnight.
Japanese Word of the Day: Daitouryou = President of a country
Song of the Day: Alanis Morissette – You Oughta Know (the Mistress Maya version!)
Basil Yuen Farrow–portrait of catitude
Don’t tell me you haven’t heard of him? The moment I laid eyes on this unbelievably cute fuzzball, I was in love. Basil is a cat. A cute, roly-poly, ginger/beige teddybear with these adorable little folded ears. He is of the Scottish Fold breed, one of the most sweetest breeds of cats I’ve ever seen. I wish I could afford one.
Anyhow. Basil has friends in high places, for his grandma is none other than the actress Mia Farrow (I have this fact directly from Basil’s mommy). Basil’s mommy is none other than the illustrious and multi-faceted personage known as La Carmina. If you don’t know who La Carmina is, you’re missing out on a lot. One of her specialties is the Gothic Lolita style ( clothing which I want really bad!), just really offbeat couture which I enjoy for its creativity. There’s more, but I can’t call it up at the moment.
Basil is quite web-savvy; he has a slew of YouTube videos, which was how I discovered him and his mommy. I just don’t know how anyone could not like him; he is just so charming, gentle, and photogenic. Yeah, so this is an all-out love-fest, but I can’t help it. He is so funny in photos, in videos, and he is very much loved. Basil has his own Facebook page, which has a monster following, of which I proudly count myself a part of. It’s so fun to see what people do for him; he has his very own ‘catio’–a patio for cats, built just for him so he can enjoy the outside without getting loose. He looks very happy roaming about in it.
I love his face. He would make a perfect model for sketching, and I’ve been promising myself to sit down one day and try doing a drawing of him. His eyes are very striking, very owlish and a vivid yellow-gold shade. He has a cute little brown nose. I’ve actually never seen a cat’s nose that particular color, but I think it just adds to his charm. He really reminds me of a live plush animal toy, because his fur is so thick and dense. I have to admit I am rather envious of La Carmina, because she has such a wonderful companion in her life. Not all cats are anti-social; my own dear cat was a big mooch when it came to food, and he loved to hang out with me.
That’s why I like Basil, because he’s so fun to observe, because he is so loved by his mommy and tons of fans. He makes people smile, and that’s what I think part of a pet’s job is, to bring happiness into people’s lives. He’s going to be a TV star as well, because tonight at I believe 8 PM, he’ll be featured on a program on the Discovery Channel. Or is it Animal Planet? I do apologize ahead of time if I get it wrong; I’m typing this off the top of my head right now. But do see if you can watch the program and show your support of this awesome kitty. I owe a big thanks to La Carmina for letting me write about Basil from a fan’s point of view. I hope you enjoy what I’ve written and I would LOVE to meet Basil and his mommy someday. Keep up the catitude, Bas!

wow that woke me up lmao But diggin her cowboy look
I think I did saw Bassil on Cats 101 yesterday. :)
Aaargh Matey…has been done, off as far as Hong Kong, Paris, London, Liege…..
*-*!! cool~!
Nice cake – you can also get the same thing filled with cheese. One wonders how the Japanese keep so thin considering some of the stuff they eat is rather atrocious. I went to a hotel today and they had some bread chunks and yogurt – that tasted awesome.
It’s true! I suppose portion control and lots of walking..
This is so awesome!
La Carmina, thank you and Basil so much for letting me do this blog! I was so happy to see how many views my site has gotten—I’ve gotten over 1,000 hits now! (of course, that’s counting over about a 6-month span, but I’m new to the blogosphere).
I know I’m not the most eloquent writer, but I do my best with it. This is one of my achievements in my turbulent life, so I won’t ever forget this. I love you all.
We really appreciate the time you took to do this wonderful article! <3 Keep at it — we're cheering you on!

LOL i absoultely <3333333 this all for having fun!
lmao thanks for sharing~
Goth?? No goth anywhere in that vid…
hahah maybe it’s not so apparent. But the singer, Maya, organizes the longest-running Goth/Industrial nightclub event in Tokyo, Midnight Mess. She’s a DJ and mistress as well. Here are some pics from her Goth nights:

hiiiya! :D lets see well there was a time when i was in the cafe part of my school and i had my hair like blood purple and i had my gothic lolita clothes on and these guys they were like creeped out by me and my clothes they asked me if i was going to put a spell on them or something -_- and then they acted like babys crying together saying “don’t hurt me don’t hurt me” and i was confused. lol and i posted to check you out on twitter :D
p.s mistress Maya looks so fun :3
She’s the best to party with! Queen of Shinjuku!
Jeese…I would have loved to have seen yesterday’s show but unfortunately as I said before – I just don’t have cable. And I would love to watch it online, but unfortunately it seems that Mr. Déjà D’être loves being bugged with COMPUTER PROBLEMS. One after another – I mean that’s it…after a few days – I’m doing a format and clean install, because this is just ridiculous.
Adobe flash plug-in crashes all the time for some reason…the display get’s all “windows 98 looking all of a sudden” – after a while some programs won’t open…- honestly there is just one hell of a virus trying to kill me.
Anyway, the dutch pepsi tv looks even more fun than it did look before. Although i would love to watch the video and see the singing!
(sigh!), I gotta say, BASIL’s eyes look so dashing. I’m not sure if that makes sense…but GOD…those eyes – they just hit you!
Take care!
Oh no! I think wiping it out and starting clean is the best way to go. >__<
ahaha yes, Basil's eyes are intense! He looks like his dad. http://lacarmina.com/2009/08/photo-of-basil-farrows-dad-two-cute-blond-geniuses-moodychick-interview-riot-grrl-alternative-beauty-tips-magazine/
