GOTHIC LOLITAS ON HARAJUKU BRIDGE.
Where in the world are you most likely to find a Gothic Lolita? If it’s a Sunday, the answer is Omotesand– Bridge in Harajuku, Tokyo.
The legendary bridge is located across the train tracks from Harajuku station to Yoyogi Park. On weekends, Gothic Lolitas put on their finery and gather here with their Visual Kei and Cosplay brethren.
What’s there to do? Hang out, have a picnic, take photos, meet new friends, catch up with old ones…
And above all, be inspired. The most surreal and extreme fashions are debuted on Harajuku Bridge. “Street snap” photographers and tourists flock here to drop their jaws.
You’ll see a number of styles mixed together, but Gothic Lolita is one of the most recurrent themes. Most Japanese students and workers must dress conservatively during the week, but Harajuku Bridge gives them a space for self-expression.
When you get tired of hanging out, there’s much else to do in Harajuku. A “day in the life” of a Goth Loli may include visiting a tearoom, looking at clothes at the nearby Laforet department store, and rocking out at a Visual Kei concert or club night such as Tokyo Dark Castle.
Let’s visit Harajuku Bridge one day!
