VISUAL KEI MAKEUP TUTORIAL VIDEOS: VIDOLL, PHANTASMAGORIA, 12012.

How do our favorite Visual Kei J-rockers transform themselves into space oddities? I always picture them yelling out, “Let’s Get Visual!!” ZAP, a lightning bolt and instant transformation…

The reality is only slightly more mundane. The “Style Council” segments from the Cure Japanese Rock Collection DVD follow three artists from fresh-faced to Visual Kei-ed. (I’m in a punny mood; forgive me.)

I previously posted a link to the makeup tutorial starring Kisaki of Phantasmagoria. The one below features Giru from Vidoll; I like how he put sparkle-dots between the spider-lashes:

Tooru from 12012 wears (relatively) more subtle makeup, but his hair is straight out of Dragonball!

Which one do you like best? What do you think of the no-eyebrows look?

VALENTINE’S DAY DIY: LOLITA RIBBON HAIR ACCESSORY, MOI-MEME-MOITIE DRESS.

Purdy's dark chocolate, cute valentine's day chocolate box with red and white striped ribbon, secret garden key. Old fashioned brass key pendant. Scottish Fold cat, Gothic Lolita hair accessories.

Basil Farrow and I got a box of Purdy’s dark chocolates for Valentine’s Day. However, we were more interested in the ribbon and key that held the wrapping paper together! Most people would throw away the decoration, but we turned it into two ribbon hair accessories.

Moi-meme-moitie Elegant Gothic Lolita dress by Mana Sama of Malice Mizer. Zipper Magazine, Japanese fashion spread. Cute hair bows by Innocent World, sweet loli brand.

The look is inspired by Innocent World’s cameo and bow. I found two plastic hair combs at a drugstore for $2, tied a bow and strung the ribbon through each, and sewed it in place. A photo from the April 2007 edition of Zipper Magazine gave me an asymmetrical hairdo idea.

gothic lolita and decora hair, accessories from Tokyo Japan. Moi Meme Moitie dress, goth crucifix, Victorian mourning costume.
Et voila. Photo by Rony’s Photobooth, taken at Glory Days Valentine’s party featuring DJ Skeet Skeet.

Dress: Moi-meme-Moitie by Mana Sama (one of my best finds from Closet Child Harajuku)
Makeup: Aromaleigh “I See Red” and “Vive Le Rock” from the Rocks! Sonic Eyes collection
Playing card stickers: from Tokyu Hands, Shibuya.

Reader Appreciation Week has come to a close. My round, foldy-eared son will now pick the contest winners, so check back to see if you won!
