ON THE COVER OF PRYSM MAGAZINE, WITH DIR EN GREY! JROCK BANDS & JAPANESE GOTH FASHION, HAIR & KAWAII MAKEUP.
Jump for joy. I’m on the cover of Prysm Magazine! The magazine’s logo is “Where Darkness Meets Decadence,” so it’s quite an honor.
The Summer 2012 issue is called Prysm Loves Japan, and has two covers — one with yours truly, and one with Jrock band Dir en Grey. (Remember Rose’s controversial review of their Seattle concert?)
This issue also features Visual Kei bands Blood and Gothika, and Tokidoki creator Simone Legno. Intrigued? Pick up a digital or print copy of Prysm, with La Carmina on the cover. You can also see previews on their Facebook page.
We took these fun photos last December in Vancouver, Canada. Jack attack!
Makeup: Jennifer Little of GlitterMachine (remember her from the bodypainting expo?)
Photography: Lee Kembel
Hair stylist: Toni & Guy Vancouver (they crimped my hair!)
Seby heats up the studio in latex and leather.
The white aristocrat shirt and skintight latex pants (!!) were provided by Deadly Couture in Vancouver. They’re the best boutique in town for Goth, fetish and alternative wear. (Remember my store tour of Deadly?)
Love these “nyan nyan” photos with Rose.
Rose wears a HellCatPunks tank top. La Carmina wears…
Purple dress: Algonquins Tokyo
Fishnet jacket: Candy Stripper, from Closet Child Tokyo
Necklaces and bracelets: gifted by Fashionology.nl
Black booties: Michael Kors (similar to these Kors shoes)
A heavy metal salute to the talented team behind this photoshoot. They’re also the geniuses behind my Gothic Beauty feature, and Alt Noir magazine cover.
This week, I’m shooting for yet another magazine cover… any guesses?
In other news, I delivered on my promise to turn your Go With Oh drawings into an art piece.
I printed out all the contest submissions and stuck them on a canvas, which will hang on my wall. Thank you again for your work! You can following along my Spooky Europe travels here.
Thanks also to Eye For Sunglasses, who sent me a selection of fun shades. I did a quick DIY project with these cat-eye frames — glittered them up with nail polish and gem stickers.
PS: my friends Shien Lee and Zoetica Ebb launched a Kickstarter for The Secret Guide to Alternative Beijing. Part documentary, part travel guide, their aim is to document the amazing cultural renaissance taking place right now in Beijing. Be part of it and lend them support here.
I leave you with recent “lacarmina” Instagram photos of my Scottish Fold maoo.
How do you like my cover photoshoot for Prysm Magazine? Have you done any DIY projects lately?

LA CARMINA IN GOTHIC BEAUTY MAGAZINE! MEXICAN SUGAR SKULLS MAKEUP, PURPLE EXTENSIONS HAIRSTYLE, LOLITA DRESS.
I’m in the current issue of Gothic Beauty magazine! Major thanks to Marissa for the interview, and to my heart-stoppingly talented team who did the photography, hair, makeup and styling.
After my Mexico Day of the Dead journey, I’m addicted to sugar skulls. We paired a half-face with styling influenced by Japanese Goth and Lolita.
Three cheers for my Vancouver-based dream team.

Hair stylist: Isolde Semple
Wardrobe and styling: Jenni Wong and Tracy Rodger, Deadly Couture in Vancouver
I’m floored with the interview. Gothic Beauty’s description: “La Carmina is a uniquely bright and shining star in the goth scene. Always sporting a style that’s spooky, cute, and sexy all at the same time, and with a group of creepy chic friends in tow, La Carmina travels the world in search of subjects that fascinate.”
You can pick up a copy of Issue 36 here.
I’m happy that the article honors my friends and colleagues, Naomi Rubin (First Mate of our Pirates business for TV hosting/fixing/consulting), and Yukiro the “glam-Evil-Queen.”
I’m wearing my own clothes: a Lolita dress by Innocent World, h.NAOTO ruffle boots, and a faux fur jacket from Hong Kong.
The amazing silver ring is gifted by Fashionology.
Nail art is by Bling Nails in Vancouver.
I can’t thank my team enough for their hard work (remember they also did my Alt Noir Magazine cover photoshoot?)
It took hours to airbrush and paint every last dot. My poofed hair is my own, except for the lighter purple curls in the front (those are pin-in extensions).
We set up a shooting space inside Avant Garde Hair studio in Vancouver.
When the day was done… a welcome glass of wine!
Incredible work, isn’t it? We shot a few more looks that day… photos to come as soon as possible! Til then, check out the Alt Noir cover pics we did together.
What do you think of my professional makeup, styling and photos for Gothic Beauty Magazine?
