KERA MAGAZINE STREET SNAPS: WILD HARAJUKU JAPAN STYLE PHOTOS FROM MARUIONE.

Kera street snaps, Gothic Lolita Tokyo photos from Marui One, Maruione Shinjuku Japan.

The latest Lolita street snaps, courtesy of Kera Magazine and MaruiOne’s LiveJ. If this is any indication, my eyes will be popping out of my head next week at the Individual Fashion Expo IV…

Kera street snap couples, photos of wild weird Harajuku Japan fashion.

I stayed up from 1am to 3:30am reading Haruki Murakami’s After Dark – fitting, since the story is set in the neon hours when Tokyo’s trains stop running. These photos remind me of his words:

“My protagonists are so lonely, but at least they have their styles, their obsessions to survive on. That means a lot. They don’t know what the purpose of life is or what their goals are, but they have to live on in any case. It’s kind of a stoic life, to survive strictly on your obsessions. It’s also kind of religious, sometimes. You could say that it’s a kind of postmodernist view – to survive a meaningless life strictly on your taste in things, your styles. Some of my readers are impressed by that kind of stoicism. (The author leaned back and sighed.) It’s not easy, you know.”

MARUIONE SHINJUKU INDIVIDUAL FASHION EXPO IV IN TOKYO: GOTHIC LOLITA PUNK.

Marui fashion show, MaruiOne.jp Tokyo Japan individual fashion expo, 2008. gothic lolita runway presentation.

I skipped out on most of last week’s NYC Fashion Week because there’s something much bigger down the road… at least in my Goth Loli mind. On Sept 23, Japanese fashion retailer MaruiOne Shinjuku will host the fourth annual Individual Fashion Expo in Tokyo. I’m still digesting the fact that I’ll be in the audience!

The Individual Fashion Expo was first held in October 2005 to showcase innovators in Japanese Gothic, Lolita, and Punk streetwear. (For a visual overview, check out my review of last November’s show at Bunka College.) This year, over 2000 people will flock to see 21 iconic brands strut down the runway. Ready to drool?

Emily Temple cute, Algonquins, Black / Peace Now, Sexy Dynamite London, Hangry & Angry, Sixh, metamorphose temps de fille, Baby the Stars Shine Bright, Alice & the Pirates, Angelic Pretty, OzzCcroce, Super Lovers, Victorian Maiden, Qutie Frash, Hiderock Design, Listen Flavor, Atelier Boz, Hypercore, Princess Doll, Nile Perch, and KERA Shop Angel/Arena.

MaruiOne’s Individual Fashion Expo IV will shake the dome with sets
by Visual Kei / rock bands Plastic Tree and jealkb (I previously profiled lead singer Hadaru). Kanon Wakeshima, a cellist produced by Mana (guitarist of Moi dix Mois / Malice Mizer and designer of Moi-Même-Moitié), will also perform.

Want to tag along? Below is information about how to purchase tickets. If you can’t afford the flight to Tokyo, fret not – I promise to deliver in-depth coverage and photos from the runway floor!
