STUDIO ALTA SHINJUKU: GYARU YOUNG WOMEN’S DEPARTMENT STORE, SHOPPING MALL. LIZ LISA, JAPANESE DOLL EYELASHES.
Let’s continue our Tokyo shopping trip. I took photos inside Studio Alta, the Shinjuku department store for gyaru / gal / youth street fashion.
From Shinjuku Station east exit, walk straight and you’ll find Alta. There’s lots of colorful, electro fashion here.
This Jaoanese shop girl, dressed as a pirate, won my heart.
She’s captain of a new boutique, Fernopaa.
It’s rocker-80s: loads of studs, leopard print, toy soldier hats.
Dig the pirate girl’s arm jewelry, and the punked-out doll at counter.
As soon as you enter the glass doors of Studio Alta, you’ll find doll eyelashes, nail polish, and Hello Kitty cosmetics.
Also near the entrance: Liz Lisa.
The girly, gyaru brand is very popular in Japan.
Shoe stores are scattered throughout the building.
Animal prints and cute accessories are always in season.
The basement has a cool stockings / socks store.
Don’t overlook Claires, or the takoyaki and taiyaki stands! (The octopus balls are only 500 yen.)
What else can you find in Studio Alta? Sweet lingerie and PJs..
Street, punky clothing (quite well-priced, around $30-50 per item).
Some of the latest styles are… questionable.
But you can’t go wrong with nail art decals, and AC/DC backpacks.
PS: Speaking of shopping, thank you to Racked for interviewing me about my favorite obscure shop in LA: Hyaena Gallery! And arigato Kyoko for the drawing on the left, inspired by Yukiro and me.
What do you think of gal style in Japan? Which items and stores did you like best, out of the photos in this post? Let’s chat in the comments.

. ODDIO. ODDIO ODDIO ODDIO!
Oooooh it’s all very pretty, punky gal looks interesting. ^ ^ Not into gal myself but my sister really loves it, I feel like I want to get her everything! Especially those boots in the 10th picture.
Though I am attracted to those colorful watches in the 11th picture for myself o: I love quirky little things.
And I have to admit, Clair’s is definitely on my list of must-sees when I get to go to Japan.
I’m always so interested to see Japanese beauty products too, some of them I can’t even recognize! I wonder how many girls are armed with an arsenal of Hello Kitty tools.
Same, I don’t really wear the style but I love to browse the stores. And Claire’s has SO many good items in Japan, esp around Halloween!
Totally going to go in October then! > w< Oooh I want to see spooky Tokyo~
cute…..
I sometimes stop in there during my lunch break. The top floor has a good place to get nail deco stuff (stones, glitter, etc.) for cheap.
Amazing!
OK if pirate girl has an interest in VK and beat literature she is wife material. Carmina, look into this will you.
Arrr captain :)
awesome ♥
Next time you go to Japan, promise me you will take my shopping list! *__*
Of course!!!!!!!!!!!
Those racks of lace-up boots are making me jealous. I’ve got UK size 8 feet, and finding shoes I like, fit me and I can afford is practically impossible, and right now I really, really, really, want lace up knee boots, ones that actually go to my knees. I’ve got big feet because I’m tall, so a lot of knee boots are somewhere between calf boots and knee boots on me :(
That gallery in LA is fabulous. It’s the kind of place I’d love to shop in to decorate my walls. It’s also the kind of art I like to make – stuff that’s morbid, full of skulls and decay.
I adore hyaena gallery, it feels like home and the parties are amazing.
One day, when I finally go to America, and finally go to LA (And San Francisco and lots of other places) I will have to visit it.
Yes, LA is a must.
Elle a du style ! So cool !
Love!
Wow. There’s a Claires and an Icing on the local mall, but both are crammed small stores, not like the above. I’m drooling at much of the rest. And just to be clear, a shop girl in Japan = a mannequin in the US?
Japan Claire’s are so much better.
heading to tokyo later, will Pay a visit to the shop that you recommended!
