CUTE JAPANESE MAIDS AT AKIHABARA MAID CAFE, SCHOOL THEMED RESTAURANT IN TOKYO. FAMOUS COSPLAYER YUNMAO AYAKAWA.
Hello, disco darlings! I’m so happy to hear you enjoyed the French documentary about Japanese pop culture that I co-hosted. Toqué de Tokyo était fou, n’est-ce pas? Here are more photos from the shoot, this time from my personal collection. (For those who asked, I use a Canon Powershot S90 camera.)
Ghost jumper dress: Banana Fish (RIP to the brand)
Leather jacket: Bensoni
White rabbit purse: Innocent World
Jasmine You purple flower ring: Closet Child
Cute black kitty hair clips: gifted from Komodokat
Since I wrote a book about theme restaurants, we filmed one of the scenes at an Akihabara maid cafe, Cos-Cha. There are more photos from this schoolteacher-themed cosplay cafe in this post.
The French TV crew rented a velvet maid outfit for me to wear.
Knee high lace Lolita socks: Spider
Mary Jane Goth shoes: Yosuke, from EST in Osaka
I showed host Antoine de Caunes who is the master!
Yunmao Ayakawa, a famous cosplayer, taught us maid lessons such as the proper way to bow. We appeared together in Andrew Zimmern’s Bizarre Foods (remember these photos from the Travel Channel shoot?)
Antoine wore a maid headband and clowned around — I couldn’t stop laughing.
He doodled a cat friend for my Scottish Fold, Basil Farrow.
Quel horreur: instead of listening to the teacher, Antoine drew a naked lady. I gasped and told on him. “Maitresse, maitresse! Antoine, il fait des bêtises!”
We played the “janken” (rock-paper-scissors) game, where the winner got to add an ingredient to the glass. Antoine kept losing — so in went natto, raw egg, and seaweed.
This isn’t Bizarre Foods, so Antoine was reluctant to sip the drink. “Après vous.” “Oh non, après VOUS.” We weren’t able to chug the slosh, so as punishment, Antoine got slapped!
Filming a TV show is hectic but super-fun, especially if you’re working with the drole and dapper Antoine de Caunes! Keep your eyes peeled on my blog for more exclusive photos from the shoot.
Interested in the maid cafe boom? I wrote a book about Tokyo’s weirdest themed restaurants — come check it out.
