GOTHIC LOLITA MANGA DRAWINGS, CUTE GOTH GIRL OUTFIT SKETCHES. ASIA VINTAGE SHOPPING, BEST SECONDHAND STORES IN SINGAPORE & JAPAN.
Dost thou recall my blog post about Horror High School, the Gothic Lolita horror-comedy film made by Professor Fearstone? (The sallow-cheeked ghoul above?)
There’s now a Facebook page for the movie, which we invite you to join. And the dear Professor — who also cavorts as The Candyman — posted these mahhhvelous concept sketches of the characters!
That’s Fearstone on the top left, Dravarious on the right and a soon-to-be-corrupted student in between. Below is the set-up for the classroom scene.
The movie is populated with bloody Sweet Lolitas and Japanese Goth girls.
You wouldn’t want these youngsters to show up on your doorstep selling raffle tickets.
Come see how the concepts and outfits came to life by watching Horror High School here! There’s now a Pause button, so you can take a matcha break in between.
Laura of Askew Magazine told me about a heart-breaking situation… Takumi, a young man near Osaka, has three holes in his heart and desperately needs surgery. His dad kicked him out for being gay and won’t support his medical care, and the situation is desperate. Reading about his daily struggles — nosebleeds, vision problems, heart attacks — is simply heartbreaking. I urge you to find out more on Takumi’s website and Twitter; please let others know and consider helping him out. (I checked it out and it’s legit.)
Required reading: my new CNNGO article about the rise of vintage stores in Asia. I interview green-haired Tavuchi (of fairy kei fame) and two Singapore secondhand boutique owners. And I mention my mom’s odd phobia of used garments…
When I was a teen, vintage shops were my salvation from cookie-cutter mall clothes. My Hong Kong-bred mother, however, couldn’t comprehend why I wanted to wear “smelly old rags.” Every time I brought home a treasure from the 1970s, she’d make a face and send it straight to the dry cleaner. (Read the rest here.)
Any Asians out there who have had a similar experience? What do your parents think of the way you dress? Thanks to all of you for helping Takumi.
Song of the Day #336: Gina T – Tokyo by Night (I wish I had gelato in my house. All I got is my Italo Discooo.)

Poor Takumi, he looks like a sweet boy. if I lived near Osaka, I would immediately welcome him into my home.
I love the illustrations. btw, they remind me of Quentin Blake’s style (the illustrator who did all of Roald Dahl’s stories for kids)
Ohhh I was just re-reading Matilda! Love those drawings.
I made my very first donation via paypal ^___^ I hope he will be fine!
You’re awesome. This will help out so much.
I wonder, aren’t there any organizations in Japan … like here in EU they don’t just let you die O_o … I mean, … weird :(
I’m trying to help do some footwork to find something like this, but so far I haven’t come across anything. I have come across several stories about actual native Japanese just letting themselves die because they could not afford to get treated – which is pathetic for a country as developed as this. Even in the US system Takumi would be able to go and get the treatment he needs NOW and just worry about the fees AFTER.
If anyone knows about an organisation that could help with something like this please send myself or Theo or that organisation an e-mail!
That is insane. I had no idea Japan was like this. I’ll ask around and see if I can find any leads… Does Takumi hold any other passport? I wonder if that might help…
He has citizenship in both Italy and the Philippines (I think…the Philippines?). Which is why he does not have citizenship in Japan, he had to turn it down in order to keep it elsewhere. (Japan does not allow dual citizenship.) But Takumi’s grandparents recently passed away, so I don’t think he has family left overseas either. He really has to stay where he is. =
Theo and I came up with a potential plan for getting him a Visa, so we’re currently looking for a good immigration lawyer. It would be REALLY~ nice if we could get some of the LGBT organisations out there involved in fund-raising/promoting the cause. I’m not about to let this kid keel over just because he’s gay.
One of my friends is talking to a gender studies professor at a Japanese university.. hopefully, there will be some advice from him!
yeah me too, I hope he gets better soon…. :(
I adore this it is so cute < D
SWEET! The food in Singapore… ah yum yum yum….
I encourage you all to send your donations for Takumi!! Its a very nice thing to show solidarity with someone, especially if we don’t know him/her personally. That’s what makes us humans special!!!
Done!!

I’m hoping I can track down whoever is running my university’s Queers and Allies drag show this year to see if they can raise money for Takumi as well as the organization they usually get donations for.
On a lighter note, my mom has the same phobia about second-hand stores. I think it started with her mother in Taiwan, who told her the urban legend about people taking clothes from the deceased and selling them. 0_0 My mom stops worrying now, especially after seeing what high quality clothes are sold at Japanese thrift stores (gotta love Second Street ^^).
You’re amazing. Thank you for putting the word out.
And yeah, so funny about the thrift phobia! But my mother also likes what I get from Closet Child…

I’m not Asian but latin americans believe vintage = used clothes for poor ppl or the homeless who cant afford new things to wear.
My parents always took me to thrift stores. Mom’s from HK and she loved going
hah yes, i tell my mom when i go ukay ukay (kinda like vintage/2ndhand too) shopping in mlaand she’s like THATS BEEN WORN U KNOW
I’m not Asian, but my dad (Mexican & Apache) gets irritated when I get used clothes. I think he feels that if I get my clothes at the thrift store or something that its a sign that we’re poor, that “we can do better than that” type of thing. My mom doesn’t have a problem with it (shes white), she actually introduced me to vintage clothes. I just ignore those comments from my dad and laugh about it later.
Exactly – wear what you want, better to have a good attitude about it. ;)

Just be careful that used clothing and furniture (epecially furniture) does not have BEDBUGS! Seriously.
I’m so paranoid about them now. I buy used clothing too, it would be ironic if a used lolita dress came with bedbugs.
G-l-a-m-o-r-o-u-s! xD
Ahhhh did you have a bad experience? I have a friend who got pigeon mites and bed bugs from apartments. Another got FLEAS!

Aww those drawings are so cute!! ^^
But I was really just… shocked and felt a little heartbroken about Takumi’s situation. On my paycheck, I’m going to donate some money because he is someone who definitely needs it.
All my wishes go out to him. It’s horrible how his parents kicked him out because of his sexuality. I know how it feels to be treated badly because of being gay >_<
Thank you for alerting me on this~
Thank YOU for your generosity. Takumi has days of absolute despair, and every little gesture is so much appreciated.
Jim is such a brilliant illustrator. Lovely concept sketches.
Really sorry to hear about Takumi…I really hope the effort succeeds in helping him.
