CLOSET CHILD MENS: JAPANESE MALE CLOTHING FASHION BRANDS, STYLISH STREETWEAR IN SHINJUKU TOKYO.
Many a boy has written to me, complaining that Gothic Lolita is all over Tokyo, but it’s hard to find elegant Gothic aristocrat / alternative clothing without breaking the bank. Allow me to introduce you to Closet Child Mens — a secondhand store dedicated entirely to Japanese menswear.
Closet Child Mens is not far from Shinjuku station West Exit. It’s around the corner from Visual Kei record store, Pure Sound.
The selection is small but well-tended. Silver jewelry, dapper shoes and glam brands like Tornado Mart.
Looks like these shoppers had a field day at Atelier Pierrot.
Closet Child Mens also sells used Jrock CDs and memorabilia. Not sure what’s going on with the clown-faced man…
I once found a Malice Mizer LP for a handful of yen, at Closet Child Ikebukuro, which also sells CDs. There are more photos of the Ikebukuro location in this post.

Rose and I were in Seattle last weekend, and the Hotel Vintage Park kindly hosted us. It was quite possibly the best hotel experience we’ve ever had. The luxury boutique hotel is part of the Kimpton group, and perfectly located (around the corner from the Seattle Public Library, and steps from Pike Place Market). We’ll share more photos and stories on Monday!
Eye makeup: Marlliss fake eyelashes with blue gems. Line the lid and extend it up and over with black eyeliner. Blend with black sparkly eyeshadow, gifted from Sugarpill. Highlight and blend with white eyeshadow (a must-have).
Pink lip gloss: a gift from my friend Kana. It has a dominatrix Hello Kitty dangling from it.
Black felt hat with flowers: Emily Temple Cute, from Closet Child. I customized it by pinning on a fringe and adding craft store butterflies.
Halloween hair clips: Claire’s in Tokyo
Blue and black punk sweater: Listen Flavor, Harajuku shop. I had to buy it. And the matching ring, since it looks like my Scottish Fold cat. (Photos to come)
Leopard print leggings: Gift from my mom, from an Asian boutique called Truesion in Richmond (suburb of Vancouver)
Black shiny ankle boots: Alice & The Pirates, from Closet Child Harajuku. They’re currently being sold new for 17,800 yen — but I got them barely worn for 7,800! You can see a close-up in the Black Veil Brides post.
Purse: An old Hugo Boss. Decorated with my X Japan photo pass and kawaii dangles.
Rose made the hat out of a vintage pink fox. She added ears and glitter eyes. It’s possibly the cutest thing that ever died.
We took photos in the Seattle Public Library, designed by modern architect Rem Koolhaas. The fourth floor has undulating walls painted red.
I gave Rose the panda purse as a present (you may recognize it as Heart E). I added a stuffed strawberry, since her online name is Pandasnacks.
