GOTHLOLI OF THE WEEK #61: MELISSA.
† Name/URL: Melissa
† Age: 28
† Location: San Dimas, CA.
† How were you introduced to Gothic Lolita fashion?
I was introduced to Gothic Lolita Fashion in 2001. I studied abroad in Hiroshima and went to Tokyo for a week. After my trip to Japan, I started collecting Blythe Dolls and Pullip Dolls. I began dressing my dolls in Gothic Lolita fashion and wanted to dress up myself.
† What do you find appealing about GL style and culture?
I love the innocent little girl look, with a dark/provocative twist.
† What are your favorite GL clothing brands?
Japanese brands: Angelic Pretty and Baby The Stars Shine Bright. U.S. Brands: Blasphemina’s Closet and Candy Violet.
† Any other comments?
For inspiration I go to www.thisisblythe.com.
Two more days until the Reader Appreciation Week contest closes… Last chance to comment and win an Akina tuxedo top or Lime Crime makeup! Above are Lang’s haunting paintings of fairytale villains. Can you recognize them all?

GOTHLOLI OF THE WEEK #60: LUSTY.
† Name/URL: Lusty (real name: Andréa)
† Age: 20
† Location: France.
† How were you introduced to Gothic Lolita fashion?
I knew of Lolita fashion for some years. I was interested in Japan through manga at first, then the music and finally the fashion – it is not very original ^^. But I always liked this style of dress and knew gothic fashion, so Lolita really consolidated all these elements. I always dreamed to be a princess with beautiful dresses ^^.
† What do you find appealing about GL style and culture?
I find that Lolita fashion is a magnificent thing, that it allows us to express all the sweetness which we have at the bottom of us. It is a chance to be able to express ourselves from this single fashion which goes from the sweetest of the princesses to the darkest of the queens. It is full of poetry.
† What are your favorite GL clothing brands?
Metamorphose temps de fille, Mary Magdalene, Putumayo, Angelic Pretty, Body Line…
† Any other comments?
Thanks to all those who make known this magnificent style and render it accessible. I would like that the world of the lolita remains peaceful and happy forever, even if I sometimes find that it misses solidarity and tolerance.
Film of the Week #8: Steamboy (dir. Katsuhiro Otomo)
