HONG KONG, CHINA PET STORES: CUTE PERSIAN CATS & DOGS, PANDA BEAR PAJAMAS, WEIRD CHINESE SUPERMARKET FOOD.
Life is nuts lately… so many announcements and travels that even I’m having trouble keeping track! On Monday, I’m releasing a new design collection — very proud of it. Please check back for the announcement.
Tokyo coverage is imminent, but let’s finish up with Hong Kong. Here are some creepy-cute things that caught my eye while strolling in Causeway Bay. (Seba and I spent a great deal of time in this district, since our Roomorama apartment was located here.)
This pet store specializes in cats with pushed-in faces. Inside, there were at least five of them for sale.
Down the road, a different pet shop focused on poodles.
Peanuts appears to be big in Hong Kong. (Remember our foray into the Charlie Brown Cafe?) The Chocoolate clothing store had a Snoopy collaboration.
Scenes from daily life… we spent far too much time at Caffe Habitu, a Western-style cafe with free wireless Internet. The concept store had panda pajamas.
I love stocking up on groceries at Wellcome Supermarket. Lots of bright, cute packaging. But I don’t know about the Beano popsicles…
Thank you, everyone, for the birthday wishes and gifts! Big hugs for Mandi (above), Spike (below left) and Kokoro (below right) for these adorable drawings.
What are your impressions of Hong Kong culture? Aren’t many aspects similar to Japan’s? You can see all my photos and articles in the Hong Kong and Macau category.

waaaaa >//< what honor!!! HBD! is awesome that you liked it ^^ I have other one of Basil but.. it's a surprise ^ ^
Thakns!
lucky
It seems like the style reflects a liveliness and now that you said that, it does mirror some Japanese cultural aspects. It’s all so cute but I want those panda pjs now.
Definitely. There’s an aggressive in-your-face aspect that’s very fun!
I guess there are some similarities… but after being immersed in both for as long as I can remember, all I can think of is how different they are. The music is very different. I don’t think I’ve ever seen tea-coffee sold in Japan (have I missed something?) And the etiquette is different..
I think so too… the attitudes are very different. I love both!
you’re pretty ;)
I am sure that I should not for many different reasons, but I really want one of those smooshed in face kittens.
hahha totally!
“La Carmina: Thank you for being such a fan!! We hope you come back to Hong Kong soon! :)”
Well, as all American as it may seem the wierdest thing I have eaten was today at Subway….there is something very wrong with freeze dried apple chips in a bag seasoned with salt
Those pictures are so cute!!! And the outfits are awsame!!!”
Oooh. I love those Panda Pajamas!
hehe and now we have a panda necklace up! http://lacarmina.com/2011/08/japan-panda-bear-necklace-for-charity-soho-hearts-jewelry-for-sendai-japanese-earthquake-recovery/
I’m going to Hong kong in october and I just wonder if you can say were to find japanese fashion. I have read your earlier post about shopping in hong kong but in mong kok, were should I walk to find those “japanese fashion stores” Is it just in mong kok and causeway bay I can find those stores? Sorry for my bad english. Please answer I should be very happy :)
I love your blog :D
Hi! Causeway Bay and Mongkok are the best places to find these stores. I suggest simply walking around, since the shops move around and it’s hard to pinpoint exactly where they are. have fun!
