CAN CAN SEATTLE: ABSINTHE BAR & BURLESQUE CABARET. BEST ALTERNATIVE GAY LGBT NIGHTLIFE, MODERN DANCE DRAG.
The Can Can kicks butt. Although we didn’t have the best experience with Seattle Goth clubs, Rose and I found a welcoming home on Saturday night — bursting with absinthe, burlesque, and a friendly LGBT/alternative crowd. Can Can Cabaret, we rate you a 10 out of 10!
Everyone who reads this blog knows I’m sort of obsessed with absinthe. (Type in “absinthe” in the search box on the right sidebar, and you’ll see.) We went to The Can Can two nights in a row to taste local varieties of the green fairy. Pacifique (made in Washington State) is creamy delicious, as was the last remaining bottle of Marteau (a superb label from Oregon). The bartender, Zach, impressed us with his class and skill.
The red walls and gold frames suited us very well.
We couldn’t stop smiling and cheering when The Castaways took over the stage. Their flirty, fun act defies categorization: there’s burlesque, circus acrobatics, humor, modern dance. For one song, choreographer Rainbow Fletcher stripped and bounced on this giant rocket. We loved the Siegfried and Roy parody, where a harmonic dance ends in a white tiger mauling.
The Castaways held my attention the entire time. Each act was creatively executed, with fierce costumes and a kicking soundtrack that included 1980s, electro, Dresden Dolls and Rasputina.
The Can Can Castaways bring in a breath of fresh air to stale burlesque. Watch out for this act.
Owner Chris Snell is a hyper, pink-wigged mastermind: aka the perfect host. The Can Can is truly a gem, from the open and friendly atmosphere to the absinthe and performances. We can’t wait to return!
Are you fond of burlesque? What are some of your favorite cabarets, troupes and performers?
PS: My Scottish Fold cat Basil Farrow was nominated for the 2010 meowing championship! Please VOTE for him — we must prevail! (All it takes is leaving a comment on this site; you can connect via Facebook.)
Japanese Word of the Day: Kosaji = Teaspoon
Song of the Day: Erasure – Always (The soundtrack to the Siegfried and Roy white tiger act.)

Wow glad to hear that Seattle wasn’t completely dead for you and your mischievous buddies. I would personally like to have seen the dance/act myself – if only you had video of it – although then again if you did I bet that the facist regulators of YouTube would take it down immediately and consider it “violating the regulations.”
The picture of you drinking absinthe certainly does make it seem that you were blown away or were having a total mind blowing moment haha.
Did you get to see how they prepared the absinthe for you? Bohemian or French? And my gods and goddesses you gotta love the milky fogginess – it’s just so…*slurping sounds* …DELIC-IOUS!
It reminds me of Sobe Pina Colada.
Yes that’s the only thing it reminds me of since I don’t drink. Oh do I hate missing out, but in the end I don’t think it would fit me. But it certainly does look like it fits you =) hahaha!!

The Seattle LGBT Absinthe Bar and Cabaret looks fab :9 Do the have a Halloween event?nnhaha… its a fact that the gay quarter in my city has better Bars/Clubs than any other quarter. They have themed fetish events every month or so. Last year’s Halloween fetish zombie party was fun (We had to come dressed up, or they charge a lot more for the entrance fee)n

They may! You can email them via their site, or add Can Can Cabaret on Facebook and ask. Highly recommend!
I love burlesque! And my boyfriend loves that I basically take him to shows of women stripping… but fashionably so! XDnnHm… Dusty Limits is my favorite performer, although he’s more of a performing singer – he has the best raunchy songs. And incredibly smoking hot, to boot. You can find clips of him on Youtube, actually.nBut I think Empress Stah is possibly my favorite performer. I can’t even start to describe what she does onstage… oh, also les Romanesques! You would LOVE them. They’re a Japanese couple, but perform in France, mostly. The kookiest burlesque act I’ve ever seen…nnI really should have offered to write something for you when I went to London Burlesque Week earlier this year! Hedo Luxe and Koko la Deuce had this incredible royal penis-king and vagina-queen act… XD
