GOTHLOLI OF THE WEEK #64: MIAKA.
† Name/URL: Cecilia / miaka
† Age: 19
† Location: Sweden, Borås.
† How were you introduced to Gothic Lolita fashion?
I was introduced to through a friend when I was 16. She showed me some pictures and I fell in love with the fashion immediately! I wanted to wear the fashion so badly, but I had no money to buy clothes, so it took a while for me to start dressing in it. But I have loved it ever since I saw that first dress, it was from Metamorphose actually.
† What do you find appealing about GL style and culture?
I like it because it’s so beautiful and it speaks to me. Then I like that it’s old-fashioned and very well dressed, to me, these dresses make a stand against a culture where clothes just are to be sexy. When I dress in loli I find myself kind of beautiful and I don’t really care what other people think as far as I am satisfied with my look.
† What are your favorite GL clothing brands?
Baby the Stars Shine Bright – they have the cutest dresses, in a lot of different colors and always the cutest prints, but then I really like Innocent World as well ^^
† Any other comments?
Above all, be yourself! Don’t try to copy someone else. It’s fun to get inspired by other people but it’s never fun to copy someone. Don’t buy something unless you want it, it’s easy to be stuck in thoughts as “I should buy this print because it’s so popular” but try to avoid doing that. Always wear the things you want to wear even if other people find you odd.
Lolita is more than a fashion to me, it’s a lifestyle and those dresses and skirts mean a lot to me!
Film of the Week #12: The Purple Rose of Cairo (Mia Farrow, dir. Woody Allen)

First, I would like to say that I think it’s great that she finds herself beautiful when she wears loli (everyone needs confidence both inside and out!).
But,”take a stand against sexy?” I know the majority of loli isn’t about being sexy, which is fine, but is there something ‘wrong’ with being, looking, feeling sexy? I think that the term ‘sexy’ can be applied to a broad range of things, it just depends on what you feel is sexy (or what makes you feel sexy). It’s not necessarily just a clothes thing.
I think I could feel as sexy in a white t-shirt and blue jeans as I would in lacy lingerie.
And, I don’t mean this as an attack on Miaka, or anyone else at all, promise. Just stating my opinion. I hope I didn’t sound angry. X/
