LA CARMINA & TOKYO SPOOKS ON TRAVEL CHANNEL TV PROMO, ANTHONY BOURDAIN NO RESERVATIONS! JAPANESE PIRATE HAT, SKULL CROSSBONES BOTTLES.
Arrrr-mazing news: Tokyo Team Spooky and I are featured in a promo spot for Anthony Bourdain’s No Reservations 100th episode! You can see it running now through Monday on Travel Channel.
My friends and I are at the beginning of the clip above and on Travel Channel’s YouTube. (The No Reservations anniversary special begins 9am Monday and ends with a new Paris episode at 10pm E/P.) I hope Tony Bourdain liked our Goth version of his Tokyo show!
One of the images in the video shows G-suS, Naomi and me at absinthe Bar Tram in Ebisu. (More photos and a full report of that night in this post.)
My Tokyo spooky ship keeps on plowing forth. We went to a cheap but delicious izakaya in Ebisu (each plate cost 270 yen, or less than $3). After, we went to drink absinthe at Bar Tram, then checked out the small gay clubs in Shinjuku’s 2-chome district.
Many of you commented on my pirate hat, which I wore during the BlogTV live chat. In Japan, Halloween items are popular all year round — and they’re already for sale at Claire’s and Tokyu Hands. I got this felt and ribbon hat, affixed to a headband, for a few bucks at Tokyu Hands. Everyone tried it on (in this pic, it’s Photoshopped onto Yukiro).
My DIY ripped tights would look good on a pirate. I used scissors to tear 1-inch-long vertical runs into my leggings, then tugged at them to extend the stripes. My red skirt is secondhand Emily Temple Cute (more photos to come).
At the Sunkus convenience store, I turned the yellow cat drawing into a Scottish Fold. Bad kitty.
Anyone have ideas for what to be on Halloween? It’s coming up sooner than I expected! Tons of photos from the Australian and Dutch TV shoots coming right up… as well as Tokyo store photos, a crazy Osaka fashion shoot, and a huge clothing giveaway from one of my favorite brands. Check back tomorrow (and tune into Travel Channel to see us!)
Japanese Word of the Day: Tamaru = accumulate, or collect. The word for “tamari” sauce comes from it.
Song of the Day: Yo ho! Yo ho! A pirate’s life for me

Arrrr I wish I could be there! <3 That's a great idea for a costume – Hangry!
NICE!!! Another TV Channel featuring La Carmina and her spooky friends, the pirate hat is pretty cool (I personally love the fantastic photoshop on Yukiro – lol! JK I couldn’t do any better, I’m more of an After Effects person anyway.)nnAs for Halloween…(sigh!) jeese I don’t even celebrate it anymore unfortunately. Here in Silicon Valley – Halloween is just so dead. Honestly…truly…sadly. nnThere aren’t those large groups of like 20 parents and all their kids and so. It kind of saddens me to hear when elders share their experiences during Halloween. Oh well…- plus the other thing is my house is kind of isolated from the rest of the world so hahaha…I gotta go to another neighborhood with a friend or so. nnOh well…as for you – you don’t have any ideas for HALLOWEEN?! You?! La Carmina?! That’s so scary that it totally does remind me that Halloween is coming up. (sigh!)…jeese my mind is totally worn out from yesterday that the only suggestion I can give is going as something like…nnLee Geum-ja from Sympathy for Lady Vengeance (2005, Chan-wook Park)nnornnAsami Yamazaki from Audition (1999, Takashi Miike)nn…nnI’ll think about it ^_^

Ahh I love these movies! <3 Perhaps Carmen Sandiego might be a fitting costume. My life has turned into "Where in the world is… ?" xoxo

I wish we had halloween in the Netherlands!
I wish we had halloween in the Netherlands!
You don’t?! Ahh! PS it was really fun to work with the Dutch Pepsi TV crew and hear about life in Amsterdam. I hope she said good things about me in the Dutch parts of the video! (More to come.)
we do, it’s just coming up really and it’s only for small kids who go by doors of people who have told the parents beforehand they’ll be giving away candy. XD C1000 arranges stuff like that around halloween. o.O;
plus there’s still Halloween themed parties?
Ahh yes, the parties… I usually go to a minimum of 5 of them ahah.
n *o* superrrr
COOL !

Totally cool that you and your spooky crew are featured in the Bourdain promo!! I’m a faithful viewer since episode one thanks to DVR!! nnThe last time I went Trick-or-Treating I dressed up as woman, stockings and everything. My mom did my make-up, lipstick, the whole nine yards. I got wolf-whistles from male passerbys (in cars, et al.) nnOne house a little old lady saw me in my sleeveless dress and light shaw when she answered and said, “Oh my, you most be freezing to death.”nn”No, I am fine ma’am,” I answered. It was actually warm for Philly that time of year.nn”It’s a boy!!”nnShe was so impressed I scored lots of chocolate.nnOne of the things I wanted to do was be a pregnant Nun. So my thoughts are you could be a priest or a Southern Baptist preacher or some type of gender/role reversal that your friends might not expect. maybe George W. Bush or Stephen Harper.

Omedetou!
I hope Tony fulfills your wish of 300 dollar sushi. ^_^
For Halloween you should serve cherry pie(or any blood colored food) to guests and then watch something with lots of blood splatter like The Machine Girl or Tokyo Gore Police.(that’s what I plan to do :] )
I hope Tony is convinced! :P
