INNOCENT WORLD HARAJUKU: SWEET LOLITA STORE, KAWAII PRINTS AND SOCKS.
You can’t make this up, folks: Innocent World is two floors above a store called A-Titty! Once you reach Harajuku station, walk down Takeshita Doori, turn right onto Meiji Doori, and keep going; it’s on the right side near Milk (which you may remember from my store photos).
The seventh floor opens to a dainty Victorian wonderland piped with classical music. Sweet and Gothic Lolita dresses are displayed with utmost care and delicacy; I almost felt guilty about touching anything. Quite a difference from the racks of rag-tag dresses in the nearby Closet Child – where, funny enough, some of these dresses will end up.
I was struck by the fine craftsmanship of the products. Innocent World uses cute prints in eye-catching ways, such as by concentrating the animals at the bottom of the bell skirt to create visual variety.
Other dresses featured fabric cut-outs, a string of beads over lace, and embroidery. I was tempted by the this gorgeous chess-piece-inspired cardigan. (The parasols and shoes also tugged at me…)
Like the Happy Socks I modeled, these knee-highs make use of trompe d’oeil: in this case, ballet slippers laced with roses and cherries.
