MONSTER MOVIE ART: CLASSIC HORROR FILM CHARACTERS DRAWN BY JIM MCGEE.

Drawing of Gothic Lolita girl, illustration of La Carmina. Japanese anime cute girl with cat. Jim McGee art, banana brothers.

Crazy eyes, stickers on face, Victorian doll outfit, earless cat in arms… that’s Miss Carmina for you! I had the honor to be inked by my friend Jim McGee, a Tokyo-based artist responsible for the Banana Brothers comics (right). If you’re a fan of surreal humor, you’ll dig everything that he draws.

Frankenstein and Godzilla drawings. Old monster movies poster art. Cool illustrations, film horror classics.

I know many of you are Goth/Horror movie fans. Yesterday, I rented Repo! The Genetic Opera because of your mad positive reaction to it. And yes, you’re right: the campy/Gothic costumes, set, songs… all phenomenal. My favorite character was Skinny Puppy’s Ogre as the vain Pavi…

But I digress. The point is that – if you love classic monster flicks, I encourage you to browse and join Jim’s A-Z of “Movie Monsters” Facebook group. You get to argle-bargle over your favorite character whose name falls under each letter of the alphabet – and then, Jim will choose one monster and give it his artistic treatment. Can you recognize the classic villains above?

B is for a certain Burton character…

That’s the artist on the left. It’s pretty accurate – Jim’s a sort of Victorian ghoul running through the catacombs of modern Tokyo. And once you see my Theme Restaurants book, you’ll realizing I’m not exaggerating one jot. Once again, the links to Jim’s Banana Brothers comics and “Movie Monsters” group… get clicking!

Tomorrow – we end Street Style week with a Committee Critique from Ronan (Basil’s father)! Today’s track is one of my favorites from Repo and sung by Sarah Brightman. Has anyone else seen the film?

I just saw Repo last night… I'm absolutely in love with Blind Mag. She's got the Elegant Aristocrat look down, and looks fantastic in it!

Terrance is a really amazing guy. He's not just the Grave Robber but the creator of Repo! According to IMDB he was only in one other film Chain of Souls (as an actor). Darren (the director) and him told really great stories at the road show about how they'd try to get sets built for Saw (which Darren Lynn Bousman directed a few of) as Saw had a huge budget to then reuse them in Repo! Curious to know what you'll think of the movie when you do see it.

sorry tired, misread part of that. Pavi is a lot of fun, especially with Luigi and him always jousting for position. I wasn't really surprised about who got control of the company but I won't spoil that for anyone. Sometimes the biggest hints are when people don't say anything, such as in the song Mark it Up given the absence of one of the siblings in that back and forth.

I watched the Behind the Scenes part of the DVD – and what a story! From 10 minute operas staged at LA nightclubs to this film. Bravo!

As you liked Repo! I'll ask about a completely unrelated musical (why not?). Have you seen Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog? Its not gothic nor all that creepy, or even rediculously cute. Its a very campy musical spoof of cartoon (but its not a cartoon) villains & heroes, following the career of Dr. Horrible (played by Neil Patrick Harris aka Dougie Houser). He's a villain trying to become a super villain and keeping a blog of his trials (no the whole movie isn't him at his computer). There are tons of songs like “My Freeze Ray” and how in order to get into Bad Horses gang of super villains a huge caper must be pulled, even an assassination. Its not spooky, the costumes are little more then lab coats, or t shirts with assorted emblems on them, but its fun ^^.
