GOTHLOLI OF THE WEEK #42: RYUICHI.
† Name/URL: Ryuichi.
† Age: 17
† Location: Brazil.
† How were you introduced to Gothic Lolita fashion?
I don’t really remember when. I’ve always been a fan of dark and gothic themes ever since I was a child, (Tim Burton is my greatest idol xD) I’ve always been really interested in everything that follows this type of visual beauty. I probably started going deeper into Gothic Lolita after I saw Mana-Sama, who now is one of my greatest idols. Other influences, obviously, come from Anime, Rozen Maiden for example :3 After I discovered GothLoli fashion, I began, as an artist, developing GL outifts for my own characters, which just makes me want to know more and more about it! XD
† What do you find appealing about GL style and culture?
What I find most appealing is the contrast between Gothic Lolita’s beauty, delicateness, care for details, forms, textures and patterns and, at the same time, the darkness and mysteriousness that it holds. It’s not just a fashion style, it’s a way of living and thinking.
† What are your favorite GL clothing brands?
My favorite one is definitely Moi même Moitié, because it’s clothes are simply designed for perfection (by Mana,of course XD). I also love H.Naoto’s creations, which sometimes mixes classical lolita styles and modern gothic aspects. I also love many other Japanese GL brands ^^” Too many to count, though.
† Any other comments?
Don’t mind what people say about the way you look, dress and the way you are. Always be yourself both inside and outside. Don’t be afraid to call attention and even to cause people to make fun of you, as long as you’re doing your job on making society a more interesting and beautiful enviroment.

GOTHLOLI OF THE WEEK #41: B. JEVANAEL.
† Name/URL: B. Jevanael.
† Age: 22
† Location: Canada (and Tokyo Sept. 21 – Oct. 5)
† How were you introduced to Gothic Lolita fashion?
I was in my first year of high school, and I was one of those anime geeks! It just so happened that I accidentally clicked on a link to a jrock band on my travels through a Card Captor Sakura site ring – and it was love at first sight!
† What do you find appealing about GL style and culture?
I love the expression of individuality and the mix of Japanese traditionalism in the modernization of the styles. Japan is such a fascinating place where you can find a Buddhist temple on one side of the street, and a Starbucks on the other, and it certainly shows that sense of culture in the styles.
† What are your favorite GL clothing brands?
h.NAOTO is my favourite, followed by Putumayo. Quite a mix there…
† Any other comments?
I’m a fellow writer! I’m currently writing a book which I’ll be in Tokyo to conduct research for (supermandisposition.wordpress.com), about the traditionalism sneaking into the modernization of Japanese life (and part memoir!). I recently began talks with an agent who is interested in representing me, so I’m really excited. Six novels under my belt and it took one non-fiction to hit it big, it’s such a strange business!
