GOTH FEATHER EYELASHES, STEAMPUNK LIP SERVICE SKIRT, GREEN LIPSTICK, FEATHERED BOA. D'ESPAIRSRAY VISUAL KEI CONCERT OUTFIT.
Rose and I made an epic road trip to Seattle for the D’espairsRay concert (full report and exclusive photos by yours truly coming right up). It was great meeting many of you there! We did dramatique makeup for the occasion…
Hair: I gathered the hair in the back and tied it over the front. The bottom is secured with a skull hair tie, gifted from Hellcatpunks. I put black and gold flower clips from Daiso on the side.
Eye makeup: I applied green sparkly eyeshadow with a wet brush (gifted from Sugarpill) over the lids. My feathered eyelashes are from Don Quixote in Tokyo: they cost way less than similar ones than Shu Uemura or Make Up Forever Professional. The bottom lashes are also from a Japanese dollar store, as are the gem stickers on the inside corners.
Lips: Outlined with a dark green eye pencil from Japan, and filled with light green Limette Smudgeliner gifted from Annabelle Cosmetics. Finished with a fake mole.
The Visual Kei concert took place at the Showbox, right by Pike Place Market. The bouncers were a little brusque, but we were saved by James of Sword Records. (A million thank yous for the tickets, photo passes and general awesomeness.)
Rose looks like she stepped out of a Goth Jungle Book: leopard print boots, taxidermied mouse headband and fox purse. She made both of the animal accessories herself! The best part: she put gems on the eyes to make the faces cute rather than creepy. Before you freak out, rest assured that Rose is an avid supporter of animal rights and makes sure all her materials are from cruelty-free sources… If you have questions for her, feel free to leave a comment in this post.
Vivienne Westwood jewelry always pairs well with Gothic Lolita dresses. Can you read the tattoo on her arm? Do you know where the song lyric is from?
We spent quite a bit of time tearing and pinning materials while dressing up…
Top: Muji
Lace mini-corset: Spider, a Hong Kong Lolita brand
Steampunk gathered skirt: gifted from Lip Service (buy it here.) Amazing “old newspaper” print and buckle/rivet detail.
Black feather boa: got it for next to nothing at a Paramount movie wardrobe sale.
Gold bead bracelet: made it myself
Tights: Vivienne Westwood, from Marui Shinjuku
Shoes: Leche by Yosuke, from Marui One Shinjuku
We’re standing behind the Gum Wall at Pike Place Market. Now that’s what I call a sticky situation. (Sorry, couldn’t resist…)
PS: please read my new CNNGo article – 72 hours in Osaka: an alternative and traditional “greatest hits” of the city. I included Fu-ki’s heavy metal Bar Midian, DJ Taiki’s Black Veil Goth party, and quotes by Takumi’s Heart. And cute panda bears!
What do you think of our extreme concert outfits and Rose’s fox bag? Have you ever tried feathered eyelashes? D’espairsRay coverage and Seattle Goth / absinthe adventures still to come!
Japanese Word of the Day: Ke = Fur
Song of the Day: reach up to the universe – S.T.A.R.S (Available from Hearjapan.)

where did rose get the boots?! they are awesome! lol and i clearly don’t have enough shoes/boots!
ahah I know, I want those!! And a lot of things in her collection! I’ll ask her…
wow, awesome outfits!
Rose’s accessories look so real ! O_O I’d believe they were real animals, if you hadn’t said they weren’t. About the tattoo, I don’t know many kanji, so… ^^”
Ohh they ARE real… sorry about the confusion! I just meant they aren’t from cruel sources… the mouse died in a pet store and the fox is from an estate…
wow. i really love your look. :)
Thanks, Kath!

I am not so fond on having a dead animal anywhere near me.. or as a bag etc.. >.>
We have a similair sticky wall in Alkmaar too! XD
Hahaha I guess gum is popular everywhere… this could NEVER happen in Singapore ;)
They are real animals, taxidermy is stuffing or using the fur of dead animals. She only said they were from cruelty-free sources, not that they were fake, haha. DAT MOUSE HEADBAND, I want it so bad.
The mouse has a heart gem on his butt. :)

OK, somehow I did not notice the mouse on her head. (Maybe because I’m short?) Anyway, needless to say – you guys looked awesome! <3
aha it was also dark in there. SO glad to have met you!
I LOVE the taxidermy fox purse!!! :
OMG I was in Seattle this weekend too! I was there for a wedding so unfortunately I couldn’t see D’espa. The outfits look like they would be hot and uncomfortable during the concert, but then again, I found Seattle weather to be chilly and perfect for wearing gothic aristocrat. ^^ The stars on the fox’s eyes do make it less creepy. Very clever idea.
Ahh no way… you could have joined us for some absinthe! ;)
Actually, it was not at all crowded inside… I felt bad, but the turnout wasn’t great. So we had a lot of space…
OMG i love it.. and those eyelashes give the look an awesome touch ;)

Ohh no kidding!! Next time, come say hi! :) I felt bad about the turnout… I hope there’s a good way to get the word out…

The dead animals as accessories are spooky. I love the feather eyelashes. James looks different perhaps because he seems younger here than in say, DEATH POINT’s pv.
Whaaat James M was in the Death Point PV? Link!!
Awesome. I saw you guys earlier at the comic shop where I work — her purse is pretty unmistakeable — and thought you looked awesome. :D
No kidding!! Wait, which comic shop was it? The one in Pike Place Market?
ah, from the comments on the blog I understood that the animals were already dead when they were used for accesories. . . I was a little worried when I first saw the art she creates. My first thought was, “where do people sell poor animals like that?!?!” now i feel better! :D awsome outfits & love the eyelashes! looks great on you <3

I am really shocked. How awesome photoes.
(for Rose) hi i was wondering if you’ve used insects at all especially a rhino beetle in jewelery? or know anyone that has. I’m looking to make a necklace out of a hollow preserved cell of a rhino beetle and was looking for advice or suggestions.

how do you find a cruelty free resource?
Oh man, that fox bag is so awesome. I made a very similar backpack out of a cross fox. My neighbors’ friends found two foxes and an otter as roadkill and kept their skin in their freezer. Four years later they decided they didn’t want them. So I ended up taking them. I’m sure there’s an awesome story to go along with your bag and I’d love to hear it :D

“I use animals as accessories but it’s from cruelty-free sources!” I’m sorry but… damn, what a hypocrite.
