AROMALEIGH GOTHIC LOLITA MINERAL EYESHADOWS: KERA MAGAZINE GOTH MAKEUP TUTORIAL, BLACK LEATHER GLOVES.
Some people dread receiving anthrax in the mail; I, on the other hand, look forward to parcels full of strange powders! Aromaleigh sent me the mother of all care packages: dozens of mineral eyeshadow samples, lip cremes, rouges, foundations. Miss K and I have been exchanging messages for months, and many of you have been raving about her indie cosmetics company. At last, I’ll find out what the fuss is about.
First sign that it’s quality product: Basil Farrow approves. My cat’s very sensitive to chemicals (harsh cleaning products give him an allergic reaction) – but he gave these high-grade mineral powders a sniff, plopped down on the pink Aromaleigh bag, and went to sleep.
I’ve been itching to replicate this look from December’s Kera Magazine with Aromaleigh’s Gothic Lolita mineral eyeshadows. Miss K is spot on when she describes Gothic Lolita makeup as “girlish, Victorian, Gothic, vintage, dolly, sweet, romantic” – yet fresh-faced; minimal. I found her shimmery shadows to be the perfect ingredients for cooking up this look.
I swept the gold Satin Laces shadow to my eyebrows and put purple/brown Morbid Curiosity over my lids. With a small brush, I outlined my eyes with Plush Romantic, a Gothic Lolita shadow that combines Mana’s favorite colors – black and dark blue – with a hint of pica-pica. Finally, I added a touch of blue from the Rocks! Sonic Eyes collection of vibrant hues.
I don’t own a light lipstick, so I used concealer and a touch of Dolly, a top-selling Gothic Lolita rouge. I lightly brushed Dolly over my cheeks as well.
I’ve been in love with my new leather gloves; the slickness reminds me of late 80s Euro-pop music videos. Believe it or not, I found these short leather button gloves in Le Chateau, Canadian equivalent of Forever 21. Shop high; shop low; you never ever know!
Already, Basil and I have joined Aromaleigh’s legion of rabid fans. I can’t wait to experiment with more of the products. Any suggestions for what I should tackle next? Your rocker edge accessorizing is cooler than the Kera original… And didn't I say the AL Gothic Lolita range is exactly made for replicating the Kera looks? *wink wink*
Must say Dolly applied alone, without a considerable layer of concealer, doesn't look like that at all though….
And if Miss K is reading this — some lighter shade of lipsticks pleeeeeaaaaaaaaaase?????
Here also attesting to AL products' purity, gentleness and more: I can only wash my face with 100% pure water, the kind used in labs, or my face literally rot within a couple hours — ok it doesn't exactly *rot,* but it peels and sprouts giant strange things and turns weird colors.
While there are many mineral makeup brands that are truly preservatives-free and gentle, AL is the only one that actually looks great and is capable of letting you do all the very beautiful or very crazy things you see in all kinds of magazines, with the same performance standard you expect to see in Chanel/ M.A.C./ Bobbi Brown products and/ or better. And it's like, dirt cheap????
And it's the only brand that has a HUGE range of EVERYTHING that goes beautifully with very pale skin. Earth-toned eyeshadows that no longer make me look like I didn't sleep for three days straight.
And blushes that are brightly colored and don't make pale girls look like a clown? Hello????
Rabid fan talk, I know — but imagine being tortured by all kinds of allergies, of the skin and otherwise, and finally finding something that you both can and want to use and that makes you feel good about your day — and that's after years of search and thousands of dollars spent on things you either can't or don't really want to use. Rabid fanship is written in my destiny.

Hee, I wondered if you'd review the collection! I absolutely ADORE the colors of this line; they're all the perfect shimmery, slightly sparkly shades to bear such a cute name. (The drag queen in me is addicted to the Sonic Rocks glitters, too…)
My ghostly-pale friends agree with the pale skin recommendation! That's honestly one thing I'd love to see — another GL finishing powder for darker tones. (I've heard Metamorphosis is supposed to be basically an all-skintone translucent powder, but being VERY olive, I haven't been brave enough to try it…) I don't use foundation, only finishing powder; I understand her foundations come in a wide range of shades.
Those particular shadows, though, are absolutely gorgeous on me (and everyone I've seen wearing them).
Ooops, you just mentioned the only one AL product that I don't like, though it's more out of personal preference… You can't tell from the pictures, but Metamorphosis on the face looks like diamond dust!! It's a beauiful effect, but I loath obvious glitter. :(
And, yeah, I don't think it would look good on olive skin, but I kind of doubt if any brand can make something that so resembles diamond dust perfectly compatible to an olive skintone. If you're after the kind of perfect angelic luminosity that Kera advocates, I'd suggest just try Perle…. Though I guess you probably already did. :)

And… Did I spot some deliciously smokey Bete Noire shadows in the first picture? (I.D.ed them by color and first/ last letters)
I'm hoping that Miss K. also included some things from the Elemental Lustre and the Eye Lustre collections… And Pure Rouge blushes too. These are great — no, ESSENTIAL really — for recreating all kinds of looks currently fashionable in Japan. Wonderful for both looking dramatic or just everyday fabulosity and for accentuating the more audacious GothLoli, Bete Noire and Rocks!.
But I suppose just getting familiar with GL, BN and Rocks will take up enough of your time in the coming month(s) already. ;)

I love Aromaleigh! I use their products all the time. It's the only foundation I allow on my face! Cured my sensitive skin's irratation right off the bat. And their Rocks! eye shadows are wonderful! They're sooo bright and they actually show up! I'm actually wearing the googamush green. ;)
